Do you have what it takes to be proclaimed Philly Beer Geek 2008? That honor comes with over $1000 in prizes. A part of Philadelphia Beer Week, the 1st Annual Philly Beer Geek Finals Competition 2008 will take place on Thursday, March 13, 2008 at Johnny Brenda's.
But to get to the finals, you have to win a qualifying round at a participating bar, and we're one of them. We'll be holding the Beer Geek Qualification as part of our Wednesday night Quizzo on March 5th.
The person to be crowned The Grey Lodge's Official 2008 Beer Geek will have to pass the following tests:
Round One: Beer trivia
Round Two: Beer identification - Candidates will be given five beers of the same style from different (mostly local) breweries to identify. We'll provide a list of choices.
Round Three: Presentation - In 60 seconds, present a speech, song or poem on why they are the best choice for Grey Lodge Beer Geek 2008.
All three rounds will be of equal weight. Judges will be home brew expert and writer Nancy Rigberg, home brew awad winner Jim Keaveney, and Grey Lodge Lodgemaster Scoats. Quizmistress E-Unit will emcee and coronate the winner.
There will be a cost of $5 per contestant to cover the beer identification.
As a bonus the winner from the Grey Lodge will receive the Grey Lodge Beer Geek 2008 Crown and a hand crafted beer geek scepter. 7pm
