Tonight
Tonight we continue our Funky First Friday series, which will continue through the summer. Every first Friday of the month, the Hop Angels, a funk band, play for an after-work-start-the-weekend party. And we tap an extra special beer or two. More on tonight's extra special beer, Sierra Nevada Exporter, is below.
Patrick from Sierra Nevada will be on hand with goodies. The band starts at 6pm.
Draft Beer Update
Pale Ale replaced Great Divide Rumble. This is dry-hopped. I'm not sure if Founders Pale Ale is always dry-hopped, but this one is. I used to have low expectations for anything merely called a Pale Ale. This one was so good when I had it a few years ago, I stopped having low expectations for merely Pale Ales.
Our run of four Deschutes in a row continues with Deschutes Twilight , which replaced Deschutes Black Butte Porter. Deschutes has been around forever and usually comes into Philly once a year these days. It's expected that frequency may increase soon. In the mean time, we have four Deschutes in row. We just tapped the second, so we have two more after this one. Twilight is a sessionable (5%) pale ale. It will be interesting to see how it differences from Mirror Pond which is due to be the 4th Deschutes tapped in this run.
The star of the night, Sierra Nevada Exportation,
replaced Dock Street Bohemian Pils. Exportation is part two of Sierra Nevada Exporter, the Beer Camp beer brewed for 2010's Philly Beer Week. A portion of the brew was sent down to Russian River to be dowsed with wild yeast and aged in pinot noir barrels for a year. It's been a year and the result is amazing. The wine is really evident and the sourness of the baltic porter has been amplified with extra funk from the wild yeast.
