Things continue to get ready for tomorrow's Abbey, Angels, Ports, & Serpents Night, Port Midnight Expressions replaced Dogfish Head Tweason'Ale. Midnight Expressions is a second running of Lost Abbey Serpent Stout. A second running is when a brewery reuses the malt from the last beer brewed to make a second lower alcohol beer. Breweries can only do this when the beer before is a malt monster. With an ABV of 11%, Serpant Stout needs a lot sugar and hence a lot of expensive malt. That big heap of pricy malt still has a lot of sugars left to be extracted. The result this time is the 5.5% Midnight Expressions.
And a sixtel of Port Brewing Older Viscosity replaced Boxcar Mango Ginger IPA. The Mango Ginger turned out to be a popular beer. Older Viscocity is "a 100% bourbon barrel aged strong ale. This is the oak aging beer which makes up the oak aged portion found in our Old Viscosity. This is aged in Heaven Hill Bourbon Barrels for 6 months." So Old Viscosity is a strong ale blended with some of that same beer that has been aged in whiskey barrels. OldER Viscosity is just the whiskey aged stuff. The whiskey aging adds 2% ABV making Older Viscosity weigh in at 12% ABV. This is a small pour sipper.
