This Week (and Next) at The Grey Lodge Pub

All this week we will be getting ready for Philly Beer Week, which starts on Friday and goes through all next week. We have lots of great stuff planned!

Today is Memorial Day and we are open as usual. It's not a holiday for us, so please stop on by. Today enjoy some great beer, great food and great people, but at some point, please try to find a moment to remember all the brave men and women who served our country and did not come back home alive.

Tuesday is Taco Tuesday as usual. Two new taco platters to choose from every week. 5pm to midnight.

Wednesday Night is Quizzo. This week's Quizmaster is Pete. As usual Quizzo is Wednesday, 8pm, on our second floor.

On Thursday, at 7pm there is a Fund Raiser/Friend Raiser to fight the proposed increase in the liquor by the drink tax to 15%. It is at the new FOP Hall at 11630 Caroline Road. Price is just $25 for 4 hours of open bar and food. Tickets are available at the door. All of the proceeds from this event will support the efforts to STOP the liquor by the drink tax increase.

Friday is the first day of Philly Beer Week. Every year the Hammer of Glory (aka the HOG), the epic keg tapping hammer that is the omnipotent symbol of Philly Beer Week, is handed off from bar to bar in an epic journey through the city that ends at the Opening Tap, where the HOG is wielded by Mayor to tap the first keg of Philly Beer Week.

Last year for the HOG Relay, we Occupied the HOG, which was loads of fun and confused a lot of people (so it was a success on both counts).

This year, it's Another Beer in the Wall, when we will recreate the bad old days of fizzy yellow lager as we build a wall of macro beer in front of the Grey Lodge.

Guitarist Jason Cohn will help set the mood.

We don't need no adjuncts
We don't need no fizz
Not enough hops in the glass
Anheuser, leave them beers alone
Hey Anheuser! Leave them beers alone!
All in all it's just another beer in the wall.
All in all you're just another beer in the wall.

We don't need no adjuncts
We don't need no fizz
Not enough hops in the glass
Miller, leave them beers alone
Hey Miller! Leave them beers alone!
All in all it's just another beer in the wall.
All in all you're just another beer in the wall.

Fear not the Hammer of Glory and the Philly Roller Girls will appear to smash those bad old days of bad beer away.

We will start building the wall at 10am. The HOG should arrive around 10:55am and leave at 11:08am.

At 11:08am, the HOG will speed off by bike convoy to Philly Brewing. You can hop on Sugar House bus if you want to follow the HOG as it makes its crazy way to the Opening Tap. To join the convoy, please email scoats@greylodge.com. You can also just show up, but if you email Scoats, he'll keep you in the loop.

On Saturday, Kick off Philly Beer Week right with The Wild Brunch. Great breakfast foods paired with wild yeast beers, many of them very rare. That's from 10am to 3pm. Chef Dave will have a special brunch menu for it. More details here.

On Sunday, as usual we have brunch from 10am to 3pm.

Also on Sunday, at 7pm it's Gee Wiz!... Weyerbacher-de la Senne Manneken Penn. The third annual Philly Beer Week beer collaboration beer was brewed at De La Senne in Brussels with help from Weyerbacher of Easton. We'll have brewers, raffle winner Matt, and great beer on tap. More details here.

Also on Sunday at 9pm, Green Flash Brings the Hops. Great beers, brewers and other folks in from San Diego (or as we like to say Sandy Eggy). More details here.

Draft Beer Update

Kicked: Weyerbacher White Sun Wit, Great Lakes Rye of the Tiger, Lost Abbey Carnevale, Full Pint Hobnobber.

Tapped:
Troegs Nugget Nectar - this is our last of 6 Nugget Nectars for 2013. Enjoy this seasonal hopbomb while it lasts.

Neshaminy Croydon Cream Ale - this 4.4% session beer should be a little grassy and a little hoppy. A nice beer for those hot days coming up later this week.

21st Amendment Hell or High Watermelon Wheat - this our last of 6 kegs of this super popular spring seasonal. Watermelon Wheat says all you need to know. Well you probably need to know that it won't long. We have already burned through 5 of these. Number 6 probably won't last long.

Dock Street Dock Street Firehouse Saison (aka Saison du Potts) - Firehouse seems to be current name of Dock Street's Sasion du Potts. Two problems with that name, 1) Ben is now brewing at the Dogfish Head Brew Pub, 2) Saison Dupont, who this beer is an homage to, was not the least bit happy with the name Saison Du Potts. No word on if they were happy with the homage or not. Saison is one those few beer styles that has a broad range of interpretations. Sasion Dupont is the standard for Belgain saisons, so expect this American version to hit that standard very closely.
