We want to thank everyone who came out for yesterday's Groundhog Day silliness. It was a really fun day.

Draft Beer Update
It was little surprise that the firkin of Troegs Nugget Nectar kicked so quickly yesterday. No worries, we have four half barrels of Nugget to go tap on in the next week or two.
On our lager line, Roy Pitz Ludwigs Revenge replaced Straub Groundhog Brew (1/4 barrel). Ludwigs is a rauchbier, aka smoked lager, from our friends in Chambersburg PA. Ludwigs is our Beer Season Beer of the Week. To make beer, you need malt. Malt is partially germinated barley. To get barley to start to germinate, you need to warm it up, like how the Earth warms up in the spring. Now we have mechanical ways to create heat, but back in the old days, they created heat by building fires. So all of the malt back then was smokey. Eventually just about everywhere in the world, malting stopping using smoke and fire. All except for Bamberg Germany, an amazingly picturesque town where just about all of the breweries still use smoked malt. If you ever get a chance to go there, you really should; it's amazing. So to make a long story longer, Roy Pitz Ludwigs Revenge is an authentic rauchbier. The smokiness comes though in a way that many of us consider to be very pleasing, like the way bacon is pleasing. That said rauchbiers tend to be a love it or hate it type of beer. I hope you will love it. Hopefully this Beer Season is showing just how diverse lagers can be.
Widmer Brothers Brrr Seasonal Ale replaced Russian River 2012 Supplication (sixtel). Brrr is a winter seasonal from Oregon.
