It's hot outside but nice inside. The AC is cranking. Beers are chilly and Karina is behind the bar. I'd say the weather is perfect, at least inside the Grey Lodge.
Tomorrow is Xmas in July, when we will have four Xmas beers on tap. Also as usual, there will be a free Xmas dessert with the purchase of dinner. This year Chef Dave has a chocolate chip walnut blondie with candy cane crumble.
Draft Beer Update
Kicked: Victory Sunrise Weissbier, Dock Street Pimp My Rye, Sprecher Special Amber, Elysian Peste Chocolate Chili Ale, Sly Fox Peggy Maibock, Woodchuck Summer Cider.
Tapped:
Samuel Adams Norse Legend - this beer is based on a old Finnish recipe. This beer has been aged on juniper berries. Juniper is the stuff that makes gin smell and taste like gin. In this case, the berries provide an herbal, woodsy, and ripe citrus character. I had one of these. Both interesting and enjoyable. I think I shall have another when my work day is over.
Dogfish Head 60 Minute IPA was meant to go on in time for Larry Kielt's birthday party on Tuesday. It didn't, not getting tapped until Wednesday. Sometimes the best laid plans... Anywho this is Dogfish Head's non-flagship beer. Non-flagship because they do not want to be known for just making one beer or having one beer be a huge percentage of their annual production. Talk about first world problems. We kid! We kid! Anywho, this is another great one from our friends at Dogfish Head. I know it won't be on tap long.
Weyerbacher Whiskey - Weyerbacher's NATO alphabet series is nearing its end. It has been a great multi-year journey. Whiskey is NATO for W (obviously no Scots were involved with the spelling). The official name is "Weyerbacher Whiskey Barrel Aged" since as you would expect, you can't call a beer "whiskey". It a malty, 9% ABV brown ale that has indeed been aged in whiskey barrels.
Troegs Zwickel Licker - our friend beer writer Lew Bryson collaberated with Troegs on this one-off beer. It's a German style Zwickel beer, which is a blonde lager. I got to have one (sure just one) of these at Hop Angel during Philly Beer Week. Now we all get to drink it at the Grey Lodge. This is a perfect beer for the weather we are having.
6 off, 4 on. You are probably asking yourself, "what's the dealio?" I know I'm making an assumption that anyone actually talks that way. Anywho, one of the beers we tapped was a bad keg (good beer, bad barrel), so that's going back. Since the line is open, we will get Anchor Our Special Ale on later tonight (after it cools a little in the walk-in), a little early for tomorrow's Xmas in July.
The other is the cider line. People really, really like Woodchuck Summer Cider, which is the cider with blueberries. We ordered 3 more sixtels of it. We will tap one as soon as it comes in this afternoon.
