Occupy the HOG! Philly Beer Week

Philly Beer Week starts tomorrow, Friday June 1st. Man do we have a lot of stuff planned for those 10 days. Northeast Philly has more than its share of Philly Beer Week events; click here to see everything that will be going down at Grey Lodge and Hop Angel.

At the Grey Lodge, we will start off Philly Beer Week first thing Friday, bright and early when we Occupy the HOG! This will be definitely be something!

For those who don't know, the HOG is the affectionate name for the Hammer of Glory, the giant keg hammer that is the omnipotent symbol of Philly Beer Week. Much like the Olympic torch, on the first day of Philly Beer Week the HOG travels through the city until it arrives into the hands of the Mayor at Opening Tap at 8pm, just in time to tap the opening keg.

The HOG stops at 20+ bars and breweries on its daylong journey. The Grey Lodge has always been one of those stops. Each location does something wild and wacky to transport the HOG to its next stop.

This year we will be Occupying the HOG.

Occupy the HOG: Hammer of Glory Replay
Craft Beer, we are the 6%!

Occupy the HOG with us.

What we are protesting? We don't know!

What do we want? Beer!

When do we want it? Now!

Beer check! Beer check!

8:00am The Occupation Begins
Feel free to set up camp at 8am, we'll open early.

We will be on the Grey Lodge's sidewalk making ourselves heard with protest signs (I have been working on them since Tuesday) and a bullhorn. We will most likely be enjoying a beer or two.

We don't know what we are protesting but we will use our rights as Americans to do just that. Craft beer... we are the 6%.

8:30am Free Breakfast for Occupiers
At 8:30am, we will provide a free breakfast for Occupiers. After 8:30am, a number of brunch items available for purchase.

We will continue occupying and yelling at traffic until the Roller Girls arrive.

10:00am Welcome the Philly Roller Girls
Around 10am, we will welcome on the Philly Roller Girls as end their long skate with the HOG from Hop Angel Brauhaus.

We will have 15 minutes for pictures with the HOG, so bring your camera or phone.

At 10:15am, it will be time for the HOG to start on its way again.

10:15am Occupy the SugarHouse Bus

The SugarHouse is very kindly providing a free bus that will follow the HOG's route as it makes its way through the city. It's free!.. hop on, hop off wherever you like. Follow the HOG for a few stops or all day. Take SEPTA back to where you came from.

For our means of transportation for the HOG, we will be taking our occupation onto the SugarHouse bus. We will continue carrying on and making fools of ourselves until we arrive at the HOG's next stop, Philadelphia Brewing Company.

Make a Day of It
Make a day of it! Start off with us, hop on the Sugar House bus (for free!) as it follows the HOG. Stay on as long you like; you can use SEPTA to get back.
