Food Specials This Week

This week we are featuring food that is inspired by the new year!

Pulled pork sandwich with bacon-apple sauer kraut and shaved manchego

(Pork is considered good luck to Germans, as well as to the Pennsylvania Dutch.  With their snouts, pigs root forward, signifying progress into the new year.)

Orange five spice chicken over stir-fry of whole wheat noodles, carrot, bok choy, fennel, and red bell pepper

(In China, Japan, and other Asian countries, it's customary to eat long noodles which signify longevity on New Year's Day.  Since the noodles are never to be broken or shortened during the cooking process, the typical preparation is a stir-fry.)

Shrimp over vegetable chickpea salad

(In Italy, as well as many other countries, round fruits and legumes are considered lucky New Year's day fare.  Their round shape resembles coins, making them a symbol of prosperity.)

Cherry cordial cheesecake

(Sticking with the round fruit theme, cherries are both delicious and lucky.  You are also likely to get cherry cordial candy around the holidays.)

Ham and potato soup

(In some countries, including Spain and Portugal, pigs symbolize progress.  Some say it's because these animals never move backward.)

Don't forget to join us for brunch on Saturday and Sunday morning!  This week we are taking a page out of chef Chuck White's book (Sheryl Crow's personal chef).  We will be offering a fried green tomato "BLT".  Instead of bread, the contents of this dish (baby spinach, proscuitto, and a garlic-tomato emulsification) are between two fried green tomatoes!

Also, don't forget that Friday is our Feast of the Epiphany event where we will be featuring food influenced by Puerto Rico!  We plan on offering plantain tostones with a cilantro crema, Meat pie (Pastelon de Carne) with sofrito rice and black beans, and Caribbean rice with chicken.  As always, our beer selection will match the theme and is sure to please.
